Defining a new ethos

When First won the new TransPennine Express franchise, they brought with them a new philosophy – to connect the North and enable it to shine on a national stage. But with new train liveries and updated services still being a few years away, the franchise was in danger of looking like it was just making empty promises.

Creating solid proof points

A region that’s going places needs a trainline that can get it there. So, along with a wider Engine team, we created the ‘Where Next’ platform that gave customers tangible benefits now. A key part of this was the Where Next Project – a mentorship scheme that rooted out the next generation of Northern talent and offered them a platform to develop and show off their skills. Our documentaries, blogs and experiential showcase followed these journeys, and catapulted the region’s potential into the spotlight.

By supporting the hottest local talent, TPE proved that they don’t just talk the talk – they have every intention of giving customers a service and region to be proud of. As a result, the Project secured coverage in 35 national and regional publications – and we uncovered the next generation of talent in the process.
